In every way that matters, Abdul Kader Shaikh built the OOH industry in Mumbai. Way back in 1978, when its power of reach was less understood, he had a vision of what the industry could be. A visionary and then a businessman, over the next few decades he acquired billboards in the most iconic locations in the city. In fact, there have been instances where he had to wait for years for the one he wanted to be available. But patience was key, and this focused perseverance paid off in the end.
Today whichever way you turn, chances are, one out of every three premium billboards belongs to Roshanspace and the best of brands choose to display their campaigns on a Roshanspace billboard. Abdul Kader Shaikh lead the Mumbai Outdoor Advertising Association as its chairman and under his guidance, the industry had grown exponentially and is known for best practices nationwide.
But what makes him an exemplary leader not just within Roshanspace but within the OOH community is not just his visionary approach to business; it is commitment to work and delivery excellence. It is no mere tale that during the riots of 1992, Abdul Kader Shaikh stayed put at 6 of the company's iconic sites at Mahim Causeway for 15 days and 15 nights just so the promised deadlines would be met.
Abdul Kader Shaikh handed over the day-to-day running of the company to his son Junaid Shaikh in 2012, preferring to see, observe and guide as required. Yet, a word given is still work well delivered and well worth the effort. The commitment that is synonymous with this legendary figure still continues to lie at the heart of the company and empowers everyone associated with it. As he mildly puts it, 'This is my biggest achievement!'
